Modern Couples
Barbican
A need for discovery and exploration defined the 20thcentury Modern Art Movement, and Barbican’s Modern Couples captured how emotionally charged this period was for those involved. Displayed from October 2018 to January 2019, the exhibition examined relationships between collaborative pairs, and occasionally trios, belonging to the Modernist Movement. The volume of artists featured was impressive, and though only grazing most bodies of work, Modern Couples highlights the intertwining nature of Modern Artists’ personal and professional relationships. As an organisation with collaboration are our core, we found it fascinating to unpick the diverse practices shown in the exhibition.
